What has driven the gold price

The gold price in kronor has risen sharply in recent years, driven by three things: inflation and interest rates, geopolitical stress and a weak krona. Because gold trades in dollars, Swedish savers get an extra push whenever the krona loses ground.

Central bank buying

Central banks have bought gold at record pace to reduce their dependence on dollar assets, putting a steady floor of demand under the price.

Rates rule the short term

Gold pays no interest. When real rates rise gold becomes relatively less attractive and the price is pressured; when rates fall it turns. That explains most of the fast moves in the chart.

History is not a forecast

A rising gold price does not mean it keeps rising. Gold has had 10–20 year stretches without real returns. Use the history to understand the swings, not to predict the next level.
