Buying a kilo of gold

A one-kilo bar is the standard unit for professional trading and the cheapest way to own gold measured as premium per gram — typically 1–2 % over spot, against 4–8 % for small bars and coins.

Storage and insurance

A kilo of gold is roughly the size of a mobile phone but weighs one kilogram. Home insurance rarely covers this value; bank vaults or a dealer's allocated storage cost a few hundred kronor a month.

Liquidity

Large bars can only be sold whole. If you may need to sell in parts, several 100 g bars or 1 oz coins give you flexibility at a slightly higher premium.
