Check the value first
What is it worth before deductions?
Enter weight and purity to calculate what your gold is worth in Swedish kronor.
- Per gram
- 810.26 SEK
- Pure gold
- 5.85 g
1 troy ounce = 31.1035 grams. The calculation is indicative and is not a price offer.
Step by step
1. Sort and weigh
Separate the pieces by hallmark — 375, 585, 750, 916, 999 — and weigh each group on a scale with two decimals. Set aside anything that might be worth more as jewellery.
2. Calculate the gold value
Use the calculator above. This is your benchmark: every quote should be read as a percentage of it.
3. Collect quotes
Visit or email at least three buyers. Ask the same question each time: "How many kronor per gram do you pay for 585, and are any fees deducted?"
4. Bring ID
Swedish buyers are required to identify sellers and record the transaction. Bring a valid ID; payment is normally made by bank transfer rather than cash for larger sums.
5. Never let it out of sight untested
Ask to watch the weighing and testing. Reputable buyers do it across the counter. For mail-in services, photograph everything and use insured, tracked postage.
Mistakes that cost money
- Accepting the first quote — the spread between buyers is often 20–30 %.
- Letting mixed purities be weighed together at the lowest rate.
- Melting a hallmarked or antique piece that collectors would pay more for.
- Forgetting to remove stones, steel clasps and non-gold cores before weighing.
- Selling in a hurry during a price dip — the spot price moves daily.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I get the best price for gold?
Refiners and dedicated gold buyers usually pay the most for scrap; auctions and second-hand sales beat melt value for designer and antique pieces.
Do I need ID to sell gold?
Yes. Swedish buyers must identify the seller and keep records, and larger amounts are paid by bank transfer.
Is it better to pawn than to sell?
Pawning gives you a loan against the gold and you keep ownership, but interest and fees are high. Sell if you do not intend to redeem it.
How much gold can I sell at once?
There is no limit, but sums above a few tens of thousands of kronor trigger extra identity checks under anti-money-laundering rules.
