How to weigh and calculate correctly
1. Find the hallmark
Look inside the ring, on the clasp or on the back of the pendant. Swedish and European pieces are stamped 375, 585, 750, 900 or 999. British and American pieces are stamped 9K, 14K, 18K, 22K or 24K.
2. Weigh in grams
Use a kitchen or jewellery scale with two decimals. Remove stones, pearls and clasps in other metals, or subtract an estimate of their weight — you are only paid for the gold.
3. Multiply
Value = weight × (purity ÷ 1000) × spot price per gram. A 12 g chain in 585 gold is worth 9,722 SEK in gold content today.
4. Subtract the buyer's margin
Pawnshops and gold buyers pay 60–85 % of gold value. Use the discount field in the calculator to see a realistic payout before you walk in.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate the value of my gold?
Multiply the weight in grams by the purity divided by 1000, then by the spot price per gram (1,383.68 SEK today). The calculator on this page does it instantly.
Does the calculator include the buyer's margin?
Yes. Set a discount percentage and you see both the pure gold value and a realistic payout from a pawnshop or gold buyer.
What if the piece has no hallmark?
Unmarked pieces have to be tested with acid or an XRF scanner. Most jewellers do this for free while you wait.
Are gemstones included in the value?
No. Gold buyers pay for metal only. Diamonds and coloured stones are valued separately and usually only if they are certified and over 0.3 ct.
