About 18k gold
18k gold, hallmarked 750, is 75 % pure gold. It is the purity used for wedding bands, engagement rings and finer Swedish jewellery — hard enough for daily wear but still clearly golden.
White, yellow and rose
The remaining 25 % decides the colour: copper gives rose gold, palladium or nickel gives white gold. The gold content — and therefore the melt value — is identical, so white 750 is worth exactly as much as yellow 750.
Worth more than 585 per gram
A 750 piece holds about 28 % more gold than a 585 piece of the same weight. When selling, sort your jewellery by hallmark so you can check that the buyer weighs and prices each group separately.
How the 18k gold price is calculated
Gold is traded internationally in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 g). We take the live spot price, convert it to Swedish kronor at today's USD/SEK rate (9.79) and divide by 31.1035. That gives the price of pure gold, today 1,296.44 SEK per gram. Because 18k gold contains 75.0 % gold, its value is that figure × 750/1000 = 973.30 SEK per gram, or about $99.42.
Worked examples with today's price
A 5 g 18k ring contains 3.75 g of fine gold and is worth 4,867 SEK. A 15 g chain is worth 14,600 SEK, and a heavy 25 g bracelet 24,333 SEK. If a buyer offers 75 % of spot you would receive about 10,950 SEK for the chain.
For comparison, 14k (585) gold is worth 759.18 SEK per gram, so the same 15 g piece in 14k would be worth 11,388 SEK — the hallmark matters as much as the weight.
Tips before you sell 18k gold
Weigh each piece on a kitchen scale with two decimals and subtract stones, steel springs and other non-gold parts. Keep 750 pieces separate from other purities, otherwise a buyer may pay the lowest purity for everything. Ask whether the quote is per gram of total weight or of fine gold, and whether testing or postage fees are deducted. Get at least three quotes — the difference between pawnshops, jewellers and mail-in refiners is often 20–30 %. Designer pieces and jewellery with certified stones are often worth more sold whole than melted.
